19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his first trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after March of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on court had led observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional victory, took control to create a final set.

Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
