Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a coordinated attack on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory employed by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.

The facility, pinpointed through reconnaissance, was thought to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was situated in mountains just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in central Syria.

"Our aircraft employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a several approach shafts leading to the site... early reports suggest the objective was successfully hit," officials stated.

There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the strike conducted Saturday night and all the aircraft returned safely, the defence officials confirmed.

The Typhoon fighters were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.

Daesh - alternatively referred to as ISIS - enforced militant control over parts of both Syria and Iraq before its territorial defeat in 2019.

"This action shows the UK's leading role, and resolve to work closely with our partners, to stamp out any re-emergence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary remarked.

UK warplanes have carried out patrols over Syrian airspace to "deter any attempted comeback" of IS following its routing at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the authorities noted.

"I want to thank every member of our armed forces involved in this strike for their skill and their bravery," the Defence Secretary said. "Including them were a great many UK service members deployed over the holidays. This mission, to eliminate militants who threaten our security, demonstrates how our armed forces are always on standby, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security domestically and powerful internationally."

During December, the US military executed what it described as a "major assault" against Daesh sites in the country, subsequent to an attack claimed the lives of two US troops and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.

The United Nations estimates Daesh still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 fighters in Syria and Iraq.
